I climbed this 3500 + foot mountain in southern Vt today. About the hardest part of the hike was locating the starting point. I know Rik had an interest in doing this one so I'll add this info in the trip report. At the main lodge area you have to locate the "Hiking Center" It is the place where they rent mountain bikes etc. As this is of course a ski resort and they charge for mountain biking, but hiking is free. They have three or four hiking trails to the summit.

The hiking trails in part utilize the mountain bike trails and the ski trails. There are parts of the trail that I used today marked hikers only. The resort requires you sign in at the hiking center so they are aware who is hiking on the mountain. They also provide a trail map complete with contour lines with all of the trails drawn on it, ski trails included. There is no charge for hiking, parking or the map.

At the begining the markings for the trail I selected to use were rather sparse and I ended up ascending three hundred feet or so on a ski trail before locating the hiking trail. Views were excellent but one is forced to ignore the buildings, lifts and assorted "stuff" piled on the summit. There is even a restraunt on top. The climb is 1600 feet ascent over a distance of 2 miles in one direction.

After three days of rain I couldn't pass up a good day. I brought my digital tape camcorder as the ups guy hasn't shown up with the new camera I ordered yet. Oh well we wait.
