I was originally planning on seeking revenge on Redfield and Cliff, but since my family was eating dinner in Lake Placid that night, I chose to go from South Meadows. The only peaks from the Loj that my brother and I have not done are Phelps, Tabletop, and Marcy. I chose Phelps and Tabletop to make sure I would be back in time for dinner.
We laced up at 8 at South Meadow's and made good time to Marcy Dam. The bugs were annoying along the truck road. At the register I talked with a couple who were staying at Lake Colden when a bear stole their bear bag, forcing them to leave early. We hit the summit of Pelps at 10:15. We descended Phelps and ate lunch at Indian Falls. As we ascended Tabletop we started hearing thunder. When we came down we saw lighting strikes over the Sewards that were moving northeast toward Nye. I called my Dad who said he was on the Whiteface auto road, shrouded in clouds. The elevator and the trail to the summit were closed.
On the way down, at the Phelps junction, I gave away the last of my water to a couple that had run out of water before an attempt to go up Phelps. I also came across a recently burned campfire and a bunch of empty beer cans and trash along the trail near a designated campsite between the Phelps junction and Marcy Dam. I told the ranger about the trash and fire at Marcy Dam.
I reached my car at 4 PM and went to dinner at Tail o' the Pup with my family.
