Snickers

I left the house around 7:00AM this morning to head up the Catskills, it was a nice ride up with a pretty sunrise, the sky was pink under the clouds, very pretty. I made my usual breakfast stop at Sweet Sue's and grabbed a "summit muffin" or two to go. :) I met Jennifer, Fran and Pat at the Roaring Kill trailhead around 10:00AMm by 10:30 we were on our way up the trail. The trail was well packed down, so we decided to leave the snowshoes in the car and took crampons, and stabilicers with us. The morning was cloudy and windy, but it was a warm wind. When we got to the quarry chairs the views of Roundtop and Kaaterskill High Peak were great. When we started to climb Sugarloaf we put on crampons. The snow was getting deeper and we were post holing a bit, was thinking snowshoes may have been a better idea until we ran into a couple comming down that had them on and they were balling up. We made the summit a little after 1:00PM, had lunch and then headed back down. The wind had finally stopped and the sun was out, the views to Twin were great and we took a few pics here with Twin in the background. The hike down was fun as we were sliding around. It was a great day to be in the mountains and we were very happy hikers. Jennifer has 1 winter peak left and I have 4!!!
