I parked at the trailhead on rt42 off shaft rd. Early in the day the snow was a little wetter but the higher I got the drier it was. Up top conditions weren't that bad. visibility was better the higher I went. It was never great but I could at least see the outline of West kill the whole day. There was steady snow fall up top, so I was surprised that the valleys were clear when I came down. There is a layer of ice on a lot of rocks from the wet snow earlier in the day so just make sure you have good footing. Other than that nothing out of the ordinary. I enjoyed balsam more than I thought I would. I liked the nice open summit.

Sounds like a nice trip and at last some snow! There's a great ledge on the eastern side of Sherrill that's a little hard to find with excellent views.
