Hiked in Saturday evening from Prediger Rd and set up a primitive campsite enroute to the Jimmy Dolan Notch. The original plan was to wake up early enough to climb Indian Head and traverse over to Shermans Lookout and catch the Sunrise over the Hudson Valley. Needless to say, when 4am rolled around, leaving my comfy sleeping bag was not an option.
Instead, we climbed Twin first, spending almost an hour at the view point on eastern Twin, most of which we had the sub-summit to ourselves. We happily shared the views with a father and his two kids, an 11 yr old girl and an 8yr old boy. This was the kids 7th/35 (and the boy wanted to know why it didn't count as 7 and 8, since he did climb 2 peaks!) and they were off to Indian Head. I autostiched this Panorama (http://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/2671806280090556846POOAQj). I actually have it at 4000 pixels wide, but webshots reduced it down to 2100 - PM me and I'll send the original if your interested.
Spent about 30 min's at the western, true summit of Twin, where we encountered a lovely group of ladies. We had a good, laughing chat as we baked in the sun.
On the way back, the eastern viewpoint was mobbed - almost 20 people, so we continued on without pausing. I did take this Panorama of Indian Head (http://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/2282954390090556846aNetnO), from the first, little lookout, just as you hit the summit of Twin.
We decided to forgoe Indian Head, as my friend's knee was beginning to bother her and we didn't want to push our luck. Unfourtunetly, on the way down, a rock gaveway on the badly eroded path, and her leg crumpled underneath her, undoing all the last month & halfs healing. We were able to make it down with little problem, other than the pain of the injury - nothing like descending Peekamoose, thats for sure!
I'll have a few more pics later today, when I get home (the Mountain Ash was brilliant!).
