We should of had the catskills gathering here!

I never knew there was a big mountain retreat off of Pantherkill road off Woodland Valley Road until I was reading an issue of Outside magazine on Robert Thurman and Buddhism. Robert Thurman (Uma's father!) is a professor at Columbia but is also described as the Billy Graham of Buddhism... But it mentions the Menlo retreat in the catskills in the article so I had to check the internet.

Never had an idea there was something so grandeous there. Looks a bit classier than Hide-A-Way!

Or there is Onteora, The Mountain House (http://www.onteora.com/welcome.html) the former plush summer home of the mayonnaise mogul Richard Hellmann. It is off Route 28 in Boiceville, just north / west of Onteora High School, and then about 1 mile up (east) on Piney Point Road. It has amazing views. A wedding locale and meeting place for the rich and famous.

There are all sorts of amazing places tucked away, and mostly out of sight in the Catskills.

Some friends had their wedding at the Onteora Mtn House a number of years back... A very nice place, evena billiard room! What I thought was the best part was that looking out at the valley from it's locale, you did not see any man made things... I am not sure now-a-days, but you just looked out over the valley and looked at mountains.

Mark I think your key words were "tucked away and out of sight". It's kinda neat that some places so nice can be around and not noticed. Nothing bothers me more than seeing a mansion built up high, with every tree around it leveled. I don't understand why these people wouldn't want to blend into the landscape a little bit. I guess they HAVE to be noticed.

Kevin, that must of been one $$$ wedding I presume. Guess I'll have to keep that in mind if I ever get married, which probably wont happen in my lifetime!

You'll be interesting to find that the 10 richest persons in the world drive some of the most mundane vehicles... Like the CEO of IKEA drives a 1993 Volvo 240DL wagon! One of the 10 richest has a B-series Mazda pickup truck registered to him. A Ford F-150 appears on 2 of the richest registrations...

However, the wannabee millionaires shall pout and display their feathers so to speak.

What I find really odd about the McMansions is that so many of them have nice brick-face facades and nice stonework and if you simply walk behind one, it's vinyl sided!!! Like if you're going to have the money and time to brickface the front, might as well do the whole house, not just parts that you can see. Looks very ugly in my book to see brick with vinyl siding on the back.
