Any news on storm damage in the ADKs from the 6/13 rains?

I'm stuck here in muggy Massachusetts but heard that the Northway was closed between exits 23 and 25 and that there was extensive road flooding in areas west of Lake George.

Heard the same thing Pat. A mudslide on the Northway?

Sorry AP, missed your thread, but thanks for the link.

I know E Schroon Rd. is just north of the Warrensburg exit, but is that where the Nway slid? The 13 news report says 65 miles north of Albany, which is just above Warrensburg. If it was only one spot that slid, why is the detour through 2 exits? That detour on Rt. 9 through all those little towns is going to take some time to get through. I have a friend who doesn't drive, and he used to take the bus from Pittsfield all the way to Lake Placid. That bus never touched I-90 or the Nway, it pretty much used Rts. 20 and 9. It was an 11 hour ride for him.

I think I'll be watching Ch. 13 news tonight.

Two exits I am guessing is because exit 24 is accessable from warrensburgh only by the Schroon river road. The exit 24 is called Riverbank the only road other than the Schroon river road is one that begins in Bolton and dead ends at the northway like a five mile access lane. From Warrensburgh Rte 9 and 28 are the only roads north. As 28 does not approach the northway anywhere else 9 is the only sensible alternative. 9 has a northway access ramp at exit 25 in chestertown. It is actually shorter from WB on 9 to Chestertown than on the Northway. So the two exit close is likely due to access points more so than extensive damage over a long distance.

Both sides of the Northway are washed out at a culvert (large corrugated pipe) just north of Exit 23. Looks like a tributary of the Schroon River.

Also, there is a lot of erosion near the bridge just before Exit 24 (Bolton Landing) where the Northway crosses Schroon River and a local road.

I just saw the footage on Ch. 6 news. The northbound lane is washed out, due to the culvert that Rivet mentioned being clogged. The southbound lane seems to be covered with the remnants of the northbound lane. This looks like it's going to take a while to repair, so I would imagine the detour will be in effect for at least another month or two. The weathermans radar reported that over 6 inches of rain fell in the Bolton area last night! Wow!!

On a positive note, there are some great places in Warrensburg to have a burger.

I am coming up toward Spencer's house on Friday evening, and generally, I cut accross Rt. 8 (out of Utica, through Speculator) and it links up I87 at Potterville (or something like that) at exit 26.

From your guys description, it sounds like I'll be above the affected section and should be fine. I have other routes I can take, but that one is the quickest. Anyone know why I shouldn't go that way as planned?

Mavs there is no mention in the news about anything above exit 24 so it looks like you are good to go.

The same area got pounded again today. We've been getting some hard rainstorms lately,,,,,drops that almost hurt cuz they're so heavy.

I can confirm this, although there is a reduced speed limit near exit 24 where the mudslide happened.
