We finished up our 35 today on Rocky. We came in from the Neversink and took a line directly to the summit from between the two feeder streams below the Mt. An easy day by most standards. It is a beautiful area along the river, much to see. We saw several parties camping and I believe we saw Lunartik and his group signed in the TR.
It threatened rain all day so when we hit the summit we celebrated w/ Powerade and a granola bar(real partyers huh :D ) took some pics and decided to follow our path back down instead of heading to Lone. A wise decision as it began to rain hard as soon as we reached the car. An easy 11.3 miles and ablout 1600 vert. It's a great feeling to know that we have almost reached the finish, but now we have to wait for the winter season to finish all on Balsam. This was Judy's first hike since beginning work early in July and our first together since Lone in late June. I was so glad to finally have some time to share w/ my best girl  We started this a year and 2 months ago and it was great to finish together--but then again I would never have had it any other way! One more warm up tomorrow and then off to the ADK's for 3 days later this week :)
Thanks to Mudhook, Ralph R , Mark S and others (Jay w/ my spelling) for advice and help along the way

Congrats! That is a fun little mountain, in spite of it's viewless, remote nature. The Neversink area is so nice, and it sounds like you really hit the slope in the right place, thus avoiding the thicker stands of sprucius scratchius. Your "official" 35er-hood is almost in the bag!

What's on the agenda for the ADKs this week?

Thanks--Just read Ralph's Devils Path TR on VFTT-- what a day!!! Amazing! It's been a fun quest but we are truly humbled when seeing other hiker accomplishments.
Our route up was really free of thick Balsam and Spruce free. We started our decent about 20 yards to the west of our ascent route and had to turn around it was so thick! Amazing what a difference a few feet make.
Lower Great Range and McIntyres this coming weekend. Will get us to 16/46

Actually, HauntedFox and I hooked up with imarchant and did a grueling traverse from Moon Haw over to Peekamoose. We did see you in the Rocky canister log when we signed in, along with the other hiker who had come in from Denning - he had listed his intened route in the Friday log.

A wise decision as it began to rain hard as soon as we reached the car.
Yeah, we walked for 3 hours in a deluge, in the dark. At least we had made it to a marked trail by then

It's a great feeling to know that we have almost reached the finish, but now we have to wait for the winter season to finish all on Balsam.
 Just a techincality. Now that you've completed the 35, was there any particular peak that stood out for you?

There are a few that we enjoyed. Wittenberg / The Blackhead Range and the Devil's Path Mts are all favorites.
We will be pushing hard to complete a winter round this year.

Woohoo, good job (I'm avoiding "congratulations" ;) ), way to go, yeehaw! Now are you going to the dinner next year in Kingston?

Did you bring the boxing gloves? It is called "Rocky"...

 Yes well done. Rocky is a nice little peak. And you are so right about a few yards. It can be a Forrest Gump situation - you never know what you are going to get.
