I'm thinking of doing Macomb, Grace and Carson as a traverse --

1) From Elk Lake and out via the Grace slide (Boket) in reverse, or

2) From Highway 73 or Elk Lake and out via West Mill Brk.

Any input would be most welcome.

traverse options.Very nice to go in from 73.Might want to consider E.town and spotted as part of traverse.Wyman is a nice mt. that you might want to visit, up the ridge from lindsey brook.

I think Grasshopper is right. If you do choice #1 traverse to Spotted or E-Town 4 from Grace before going down.

That makes for a long car spot (especially if you use Elk Lake) that might best be done the night before depending on where you're coming from.

Yet another variation isn't exactly a traverse: go up the Grace Slide and do a there and back trip to Macomb. Once back on Grace traverse to E-Town4 and out.

Wyman is an amazing peak. Did that with Bear and Buck as a traverse. Highly recommended. But then again everything you mentioned (slide, West Mill Brook) are all excellent approaches.

Then again, Spotted and #4 are on my top 10 list for bushwhacks.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of this. The hardest part is making a decision.

Thank you all for wonderful input. One day, I will do the ET / Wyman / #4 / Spotted traverses.

For right now, tho, I received pertinent infomation that the Lillian Brook path has been cut (ILLEGALLY??) and all the aspirant 46'ers entrusted to my care will be happy to know -- save for the advent of a major windstorm prior to Sept 1 -- that it's passable.

However, between now and then, I may still ascend West Mill Brook just to see where it goes and how long it takes. On Carson, last year, I saw a major path headed toward the east and wondered whether that was the path. I want to try the aforementioned routes, but without 46'er wannabes in tow who only want their 46'ers and nothing else.

Hey, did I ever tell you about the couple who hiked their 43, 44, 45 peaks -- M-C-G? They were so determined and, once they finished on Haystack, they quit hiking. LR

Then they weren't in it for the enjoyment or the fullfillment. I also don't understand those who do only the 46 and nothing much beyond that. God, there's so much more out there that they're missing. The 46 is only the tip of a very large iceburg.

There are many people like that. They just want to call themselves a Forty Sixer and wear a patch to symbolize it.

They may not realize it, but the challenge results in changes within which, along with the memories, positively affect them and those around them for the rest of their lives. At least that is what I choose to believe.
