After a very slow start to summer for hiking for me (I injured my foot about a month ago) I went for a hike today to test myself.
We are visiting with my wife's brother and family in Vancouver and seeing those Mountains looming so close to the North, decided to try the very popular "Grouse Grind" which climbs 2,800ft in 2.9km (about 1.8miles) It is about a 20 minute drive from downtown Vancouver and although it has a nice wilderness feel to it you will not be alone being so close to the city.
I checked up on the internet to find out the details and how long it should take to hike. The record for the climb is 26min 26sec. which I find to be an incredibly fast time considering the elevation gain.
I went as hard as I could and the foot held up well, I ended up with a time of 52min. 30 sec. which I thought was pretty good until I saw on the TV screen they had at the summit lodge flashed up that an 80+ old had finished in 47min something.... incredible.
Tim... I think I saw that you will be heading out this way later in the summer... I reccomend this as a good training hike.
