What is the parking situation like at the Corey's Trailhead? MY plans have changed and I wont be able to get in there until a Saturday morning instead of Fri.

Thanks,
Adam

It holds about 20 cars, give or take. We stopped by there last Saturday in mid-afternoon, and there was room for two more cars (ours). Hard to say how it will be, but I would get there as early as possible.

I think Dick was enjoying beer and hot food at Spencer's when we came out.

We did have a devious plan or two up our sleeve  but not knowing exactly when everyone would be coming out, we opted for the beer and hot food instead!

While we're on the subject of Corey's......what's the best way to get there from the Northway. I'm assuming get off exit 30 and head up rt. 73, take the short cut right after the ski jumps over to 86 and continue on to Saranac Lake and rt. 3? Am I correct in that route or is there a better way? I'll be meeting Adam there and it will be my first time in that area as well.
Thanks.

Yes, correct. See here as well for more info on Sewards:

This site describes it from Tupper Lake, but it's also 12.7 mi. west of the traffic light in the center of Saranac Lake. It's a left-hand turn, not far past an ADK style boat access sign (South something or other?). If you hit Rt. 3/30, you've gone about 2 1/2 mi. too far.

You can also get of exit 29, head to Long Lake, then up Tupper Lake. A little longer in distance, but you won't run into traffic if you're going on a weekend during the hours that sane people are awake. A LOT faster when the Ironman is going on.

UUUUHHHH, I totally forgot about Ironman! When is that going on? Usually it's in July, hopefully not when I'm planning on being up there. That's how I got my first introduction to Lake Placid. We went to visit friends of ours who live in Olmstedville and they told us about this great town about an hour away. It hosted two Olympics, was real nice, blah, blah blah. Off we went, only to find NYC style traffic on the outskirts of town. Never saw Lake Placid, but I was hooked on the scenery and knew I had to go back to explore those mountains I saw along the way.
I swore I'd never go back on Ironman weekend though!

Ironman: The website says Sunday July 23rd. Thought for a moment there I'd have to make a quick change of plans.

That's interesting Pete. I assumed the Lake Placid route was longer, not to mention the traffic on a weekend. But lets suppose you went via LP during a week night, with less traffic. You're coming from the south on the NWay (Albany). Which would be quicker, exit 29 or 30?

AFter leaving Corey's and hitting the trail is it better to take the Horse Trail or the tote road?

Thanks,
Adam

I think it depends on where you’ll be hiking to. If you’re hiking to the Ward Brook lean-to, I’d take the road. If you’re hiking to the Calkings Brook path, I’d take the horse trail.

Seriously, it won't save you more than a 1/10 of a mile or so, and it might be more pleasant to go the other way, although last time I was there a few weeks ago, there was no horse evidence to be seen anywhere. If you do encounter a horse, get well off the trail.
