The Gathering (I have bestowed a capital G to the word) is already 10 days behind us and there has been no official wrap-up thread. In case you were wondering why not it's because Mudrat has been spending hours and days chasing down pics and putting together the wonderful poster you see here.
We owe him a huge debt of gratitude for his hard work in a labor of love he described best as chief cat-herder :D
Thanks Mudrat!!
We have uploaded this picture to Kodak Gallery so it is available for anyone to download or order the 20x30 poster right from the site. There are two files that look identical one is the smaller size about 1.1mb download the other is the high resolution 20"x30" poster size.
The poster is currently available through Kodak Gallery (http://pix.kg/p/242969294213%3A1273499042/sct).

The Press Release
Enthusiastic hikers climb the famed 46 Adirondack High Peaks and raise funds for the ADKHighpeaks Foundation.
On February 18, 2012 nearly 100 people, divided into 46 different groups yet united by a common goal, headed out from multiple trail-heads in a successful bid to put hikers on the summit of each of the 46 Adirondack High Peaks. The hike is an integral part of an annual get-together, pot-luck supper and fund raiser, which is organized by the ADKHighpeaks Foundation a 501(c)3 Not for Profit charitable organization. The year 2012 marked the fifth consecutive year that the hikers attempted this particular feat. The climbers are all members of the foundation-owned ADKHighpeaks.com hiking forum or the French-Canadian FousdeRando forum. The event has resulted in many international teams and friendships being forged in addition to bringing an economic boost to the region that has suffered through a tough tourism year. The gathering celebration has been hosted by the Ark Trail Inn in Upper Jay since its inception. Owners Jim and Kathleen Blaisel have been very supportive over the years as we book their establishment for the weekend and they graciously open the kitchen and lounge area for our use.
During the winter hiking season conditions can make hiking either very easy or impossibly difficult and unsafe. Says Neil Luckhurst, one of the organizers of the event and vice-president of the Foundation, "The first four times we were unsuccessful in our attempts. Safety is our number one priority, and we attempt to pair less experienced hikers with those who have the most experience. This event is always a great opportunity for less experienced winter hikers to get an opportunity to improve their winter climbing skills under the guidance of some of the most experienced and skilled winter climbers in the region."
Jack Coleman, Foundation treasurer points out, "as most of the northcountry is aware, it’s been a lean snow year. Many people liken that to easy hiking conditions. Our groups can assure you that there is plenty of snow in the mountains and an abundance of glare ice in some locations. Tenacious groups trudged through up to a foot of newly fallen snow. A single step "off trail" plunged many up to their chests or beyond while others had to navigate treacherous areas of wind-polished ice. However, many of our members are winter 46ers or actively pursuing that goal and they have all the right equipment and the skills to use it. Most importantly, they know when it's time to turn back."
In addition to the “46” forum members made it atop McNaughton Mountain, considered to be the “extra” or 47th peak due to its 4,000’ height and Mt. Jo one of the smallest mountains in the high peaks region and famous for its inclusion in the Marshall Brothers challenge.
The ADKHighpeaks Foundation has provided financial support in the form of grants to organizations that provide a service or benefit to the forest preserve. Past recipients include the ADK Summit Steward Program, the Adirondack Ski Tourism Council, and the Keene Valley Fire Department. The Foundation is also providing the funding and manpower for the restoration of the Fire Tower on Mt. Adams. This year’s grant recipients will be announced at a later date.
Mission Statement: The purpose of the ADKhighpeaks Foundation is to provide financial assistance to organizations whose activities provide a benefit to the New York State Forest Preserve and the people that use it. The Foundation has a particular interest in funding wilderness zone and environmental protection, safe recreation, public education and biological research.
