Enchanted forest water safari, where the fun never stops!
Most of the time the herd path stayed in the woods right next to the brook. On occasion it was right in the stream bed for a short distance and you had to walk in the water. Most of our pictures were taken while frolicking.
Cool pictures. Funny that we were walking up dry rock just a few days ago in those same spots.

Those are awesome pictures. Surely enough water on the trail. Looks like you got wet!

When we re-habilitated the Marshall path several years ago, there was a sudden hard thunderstorm. It was on that day, that I got new respect for the power of water.
It first started on the upper sections of the herd path (below the beaver dam, but above the brook), when the normally dry herd path was a stream, with soccer-ball sized rocks begin washed down the stream.
Further down, I was walking through the stream, in water that was probably a foot deep, when I was knocked off me feet, and washed over 100 feet downstream. I got cut up pretty bad, being dragged over the rocks. The other guys with me, just stood in amazement; amazed that so little water could wash me down so hard and fast.
I don't remember what stopped me, all I remember is that I was scared shipless (s/p/t/). I never thought that I could feel so helpless in such a small amount of water.

That is exactly what I was worried about all the way up ! I have to admit that I asked Neil to give me a hand on some pretty hardcore crossings.
Can't wait to read the full TR, Neil.

That is a very horrifying and sobering tale. It always amazes me how quickly things can go bad. On the day before heading out on the hike I was worried about the water hazard (in spite of my TR) and discussed it with Randomscooter and Julie. Herbert brook has a much smaller catch basin than the creek that goes down the west side to IP which must have been a heckuva raging torrent.
So many things to know in order to be safe. High water, steep ice, electrical storms, wet slides, whiteouts, cold weather, femur eating holes, Pete Hickey's trail snacks....the list goes on and on.

One day Neil, I'll teach you how walk ON water!!
