I decided I wanted to do a backpack off of the beaten path. Be careful what you wish for. We went up Mt Tremper from the Rt 40 trailhead and then the Warner Creek Trail to Rt. 214. The Warner Creek Trail is not a well used trail. If you are looking for a challenge this would be a good one. The trail was very over grown, many nettles, bugs, and blackberry bushes. With the damp, humid conditions the hidden rocks were very slippery. The trail was pretty easy to follow as it looks as though it was newly blazed. I don't think the trail was ever cut it. As Joe said, it looks like someone walked through with a staple gun and said, "That looks like a good place to put a trail marker" We only lost the trail once or twice for a brief minute. I would consider this more of a bushwhack than a trail. The section along Warner Creek is pretty although there are not many views to be had on this trail. I can't say that it is on my visit again list, but does deserve to be checked out by those looking for a challenging hike. Take plenty of water, pants, and a good attitude, it is a hard day. The rest of the backpack up to Hunter was pretty uneventful, nice views from the fire tower on Hunter. Had to have lunch up on the tower to get away from the files.

 Glad you enjoyed this trail. It is a good place to get away from the crowds. It sounds like the maintainers are keeping it well blazed - and it needs to be given the light usage. You are basically right about the trail never being cut. I first hiked it in 2001 shortly after it opened. There has never been much of a worn path. The trail makes a nice, but long approach to Mt. Tremper. Warner Creek is pleasant, and probably worth exploring along the old road that crosses the trail. The trail should get more use once the extension up the southwest ridge of Plateau opens - perhaps later this summer.
