Rob, there are slides all over the Wolf Jaws, some old, some new, on both sides. The rain was minimal this week, but the temps were above freezing.
Do you have a particular one in mind?

So... maybe next monday isn't a good time for HaBaSa!? Or the thicker ice will give more bite for crampons?!

Rob, I say go for it, just bring everything you would need for variable conditions. Definitely bring crampons and an ice axe. Most of it is low angle, but the top gets pretty steep. You can always hug the sides and drop into the trees if you feel uncomfortable--I wish I could go with you, it's an incredible hike.

every day is a good day for HaBaSa. It's about the gear and the condition of the hiker.

I was looking forward to you coming to but i understand your commitment to the family
I climbed LWJ from the Interior Outpost last Saturday. Microspikes to the col, but switched to crampons shortly thereafter. On my way up a group of six blew by me on the way down, all wearing crampons. They said they had climbed the Benny's Brook Slide and I was doing it the hard way.

I had some confusion of which that one was so we did this other slide which took us to top/false summit one over from upper. it was beautiful. And how where you doing it the hard way? Up as to down?

I was hiking alone so I stuck to the trail from the Wolf Jaws lean-to. I inferred from their comment that climbing LWJ via Bennie's Brook slide was easier than taking the trail. This group of 6 was well equipped, moving fast, and obviously very experienced. But for this aging plodosaurus, any way is the hard way.

did we meet at the bottom of lwj??? me and another guy
Perhaps we did...I exchanged a few words with two fellows just above the col at the LWJ/Wedge Brook Trail junction around 2:45. I was wearing black pants, black/gray windshirt, & blue pack with orange MSR LAs strapped on.

pretty sure that was us... jim was the talkitve one you meet first.
Yes, after checking out your photos I'm sure we did meet. The ice on UWJ looked intimidating; nice work in tackling that. Hope to see you and Jim again on the trail.
Cheers!
