We had a group of about 20 for the 46er trail crew's first outing of the year. Thanks to Meo and Jean-René, who brought friends, giving us a large Québec group. This provided the rare occurrence of having more French speaking trailworkers than English, which was enjoyed by the regular crew.

One team cleared blowdown right up to the summit, removing some of it out of several feet of snow, which started after the slide. Three other crews did trail hardening, which consisted of setting footstones in muddy sections, so that hikers can keep their boots mud-free.

Finally, another crew cleared drainage ditches. Just a not about this. This is one of the simplest and best things that can be done in the spring. Fall leaves will clog water bars, allowing a buildup of water, which will then turn into mud. Clearing the leaves and debris, allows the water to quickly run off, keeping he trail dry and mud free.

That second shot is THE BEST. I love it.

I wish I could have been there, but I was doing trailwork in the Sentinal Range. Only problem was there was no friggin' trails to be found ANYWHERE. Makes Lost Pond look easy, Neil ;)

Rico made me do it. It was damn cold without a shirt.

Lots of other chances. A lot of rolling rocks this summer. June 11 is an axing day. rom Elk Lake, up Hunters Pass, down the Beckhorn. Typically, there are about 20-30 tees to remove.

June 11, sign me up. I'm so overdue to start putting some "in" time to the Adirondack trail system, it is so not funny. Time to start making deposits, instead of withdrawals. Let me know what I have to do?

We signed up for our first trail maintenance on the 28th for the 46er weekend. I'm not sure what we're getting ourselves into or what we're capable of, although I understand there's a variety of duties. I guess we'll be hearing back shortly. I'm planning to bring pepper spray -- you never know -- you might come across some strange axe-wielding creatures perched on rocks...:)

Lots of things, depending on your abilities and desire. A fun day if the blackflies don't eat you.

Here's a hint:
You will have pails & shovels; there will be rocks and more rocks.
