I was checking the weather all week and Saturday was looking to be a perfect day for peakbagging. We left Syracuse around 6:00 am, and hit the trail at 9:45. We snagged the very last spot at the parking lot. For once the weather people got it right because it was a gorgeous day out. The person running the lot told us the bugs were bad today so we loaded up on some bug spray. The trail up to big slide was pretty dry, and the bugs didn't bother us too much. It looked like people have been clearing the trail which was very helpful. We took our time getting up big slide and enjoying the views of the great range. We reached the first brother at 11:00, and made it to the second by 11:15. The sky was blue and the views were great. We made it past the third brother at 11:50 and too the summit of big slide at 12:45. We stopped and ate lunch and relaxed for about 45 minutes. Our neighbors to the north were well represented on the summit that day, there were plenty of maple leafs to be seen. After taking plenty of pictures we picked up and headed on. The trail to yard was not as nicely cleared as the trail to big slide, There were a couple tricky spots where we had to do some gymnastics over and under blowdown. We made it to the viewless summit of yard at around 2:15, and didn't linger long. The trail heading down from yard was really steep and rocky. It could use some cleaning up as well. We passed a group of guys getting water from a brook and they were hoping we would fall cause they said the first one who falls buys a round, but we made it through there safely. The rest of the hike was a nice walk through the woods and we made it back to the register at 5:00.
