After reading posts over the last few months about the different trails that suffered blowdown damage from last fall's October gale, I've noticed a few recently, as we all (hiking community) begins to spread out more to the "far and wide" places and those less traveled spots, we are bound to discover more and more places where it blowdown has had a major effect.
After hiking Nun-da-go-a a few weeks back and Pillsbury yesterday and reading this -POST- (http://www.adkforum.com/showpost.php?p=43644&postcount=72) (from the ever-annoying ongoing trail run debate), I though I'd start this thread as a depository of trail that we need should all be aware have significant blowdown issues that make trail movement and following difficult.
I'll start;
Pillsbury Mt. (Central ADK's) - Significant blowdown in the upper regions of this mountain make following the trail VERY difficult in spots. Decimated described it in a few short stretches. Felt like bushwhacking actually (I kinda liked that :tup: )
Nun-da-go-a Ridge (Hurricane Mt. Area)- Backside of Westen Mt. has some stretches that make following the path difficult at best.
Add your spots you've seen or heard of. Below is a typical view along the Pillsbury trail.
