Last hike for the weekend which started in Lee, at the AT lot on SR 20, and out over I-90, and up through some beautiful open woods to the Upper Goose Pond cabin, which is of course, closed now, but a beautiful spot. Then I decided to just bushwack around UGP, following the shoreline and picked up the AT on the eastern side of the pond which I followed back north to my car. The snow today has been hard as a rock, I probably didn't even need snowshoes but just a beautiful spot of the woods..
The cabin is pretty nice, though I suspect you can still hear I-90 from there...

There's some bonus shots at the end as my Subaru rolled over to 100k just as I was crossing SR20 on Walker St... on my way home..
Saw nobody the entire time I was on the AT this weekend, though I saw tracks on most of the sections...

I don't think you can hear the Mass Pike from there, though I could be wrong. Great hike Jay, the Upper Goose area is beautiful, and I know you've already got a plan to take the kayak in there!

The cabin is owned by the NPS, there are signs stating "US Govenment property" on the boathouse and the land around it but the cabin is volunteerily manned by members of the AMCBerkshires I think and perhaps the AT Mass folks...
There is a canoe in the boathouse that I think is available to be used by guests cause supposedly the spring is across the pond. (and they don't drink the water straight from the pond as it is supposedly treated for invasive species like Millfoil.
The kayak there would be awesome, I wonder if there is access via Goose Pond which you can kayak over..

I camped at Upper Goose Pond twice; once I hiked in and once I launched my kayak from the public ramp off Cooper Town Rd., which is off Forest St. There is parking space for people using the beach; overnight parking is restricted from Nov.-April.
Upper Goose Pond is lovely, but even with the leaves on the trees the sound of traffic from the Mass Pike was intrusive.

Thanks Deb, I knew I could hear the air brakes on the semis that blow through there even when I was on the other side of the ridge that you climb over to get to the Goose Ponds... I think you might not hear cars but engine braking from semis is quite loud and carries far, which is why a lot of towns have ordinances to try to stop the truckers from using it.

I can hear them in my apartment when the trucks hit the blinking yellow on Hubbard St (as it goes downhill southbound from the 7A junction) but usually only if I'm already awake...

Nice. Every time I've driven under the AT on the Pike, I've thought to myself, I should hike that sometime.
Good way to spend a windy weekend

I do the same thing... I have hiked that AT over I-87 around Harriman SP and have walked over the small pedestrian bridge that connects the Red Apple Rest off Rt 17 to the old Arden valley Road.
I have also hiked and skied and biked the Cannonball Trail over I-287 in NJ...
Maybe it is for an Interstate hiking list? Hmmm..\
I have also hiked over I-80 by the Delaware Water Gap via the Paunlinskill Aquaduct...

Often wonder about the AT and that overpass. I will have to get over there. Thanks for the report.

RTSpoons, hey, if you ever want to check out the Berkshires, you have a place to stay, I have a pull out sofa in my apartment... If you haven't checked out the southern Taconics, like Everett, Race, Alander, etc. etc. Do so, it is great.. So is like Berlin Mtn, Greylock, Saddle Ball, Mt Prospect, Lenox Mtn, Cobbles, the AT... Ack, the list goes on...
