What could possibly be a more important thread than the Food or Peaks threads?
This is the thread that ties this entire event together and unites it with one of the forum's most important functions: giving back.
Beyond the information exchange, trip reports and good times that prevail on this wonderful forum we all can feel proud of being a part of some of the contributions we have made. Jack said it much better than I can:
So please keep in mind that we have no full time employees, this is all volunteer and we know that as we grow (hopefully) that there will not be 100% agreement on how we give away money but heck in a couple of years I think we have done some good, Keene Valley Volunteer FD $5,000 for replacing S&R Gear, Adirondack Ski Tourism Council $5,000 for Trail work and easement purchase of the Jack Rabbit Ski Trail, The Mt Adams Restoration Project $5,000 as an ongoing commitment. (BTW just got an email from the volunteers that have assembled the new roof I will be posting pictures soon)
And now the Summit Steward Program on Cascade. I do not beleive that these are one and done events but something that we can all be proud to say, "yeah, I am a part of that"
Thanks
Jack
Because we are a foundation, our basic purpose is to raise money. The lucky chemistry of ADKHighPeaks is that we are able to do so while having a lot of fun. And of course, it's all strictly voluntary. Participation in the forum and the activities we organize comes with no obligations. In fact, anyone could show up empty handed at this weekend's gathering, eat and drink like a king, crash on someone's floor and leave the next day. No eyebrows would be raised or question asked. That's how we do business.
Now, to get to the point:
This weekend's gathering is our primary fund raising event of the year and we ask you to give what you are able. If it's five dollars or five hundred it dosn't matter because you will feel good about it and your contribution will become part of a whole.
There are numerous ways to donate: the easiest is to go directly to the donations site by clicking on this link: https://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/btn_donateCC_LG.gif (http://www.adkhighpeaksfoundation.org/adkhpf/fundraising.html) and folowing the steps.
Or, you can give Jack, Dick, Allan or I a check Saturday evening (make sure your name and screen name is written legibly somewhere on the check for tax receipt purposes). Cash donations are good too.
Remember, it's not whether you reach the summit, it's how you do the climb that counts.
See you all on Saturday!
