Lucky me!...My request was answered and it's a go!...Taking my son 14 and daughter 10 with me...now I have to relax and not get angry with them every second or they won't want to be with me...I've only gotten into this hobby for 2 years and I've been to NH, Vermont, ADk, Catskills and Maine twice...I may not hike fast or long distance but I'm getting a chance to see the NE....also learned that if I wait for a friend to go then I might never get to go....so...off I go!...did that make sense?..will start reading the previous threads about trails...but it looks like if the weather is really good, then try the knife edge?...

Tim, I just read your trip report from last year...even though I don't have the hiking experience, I'm lucky that I've learned not to take certain chances, especially involving the kids...so..I'll skip the knife's edge and enjoy the other trails...

You will love the place. A nice hike I would recommend (if you want nice up close views of the Knife Edge) is the Helon Taylor Trail from Roaring Brook to Pamola. From there you can drop down to Chimney Pond to finish a great loop back to to Roaring Brook. Also nice is South Turner Mt. from Roaring Brook. Some real good chances of seeing moose up close on this one as it goes past a few ponds in route. Great views of the cirques on Katahdin, also. If you are interested in climbing Katahdin, the Saddle Slide is the easiest option, but it is a somewhat long day. I highly recommend camping at Chimney Pond if you can swing it. Have a great trip!
