For me, hiking in the spring means looking for wildflowers. I'm interested in hearing about what wildflowers folks have seen this spring. If possible, describe the general area and altitude so we can see when spring arrives to the ADKs.

April 15, 2006 -- lots of coltsfoot along the roads, round-lobed hepatica in the woods near Lake George. This is at an altitude of only about 400 ft. and in the southeastern corner of the ADKs.

On the Bros trail to Big Slide, May 7: Lower elevations have trilliums opening up - Mostly red, but saw a few painted trilliums also. There are little violet flowers (dunno their names) and I saw a taller bush w/whitish flowers that Mrs Alpine says is a 'wild hydranga'. <I'm sure I butchered that spelling>
I also saw a tall & stringy bush w/purple blooms - a wimpy looking but pretty plant

They're starting!
