With Judy's Mom (aka babysitter) not feeling well we figured it was time for Judy' son David (10) to take a hike-we still had Rusk to do and figured it was a nice short bushwack that David could handle. He had done Mt Jo back in February and had kept up quite well through snow and ice. Hit the TH at 12:30--Bw'ked up the first ridge at the hairpin turn of the Spruceton Trail. David kept up pretty well--It's a short hike but a bit steep in places. Canister was easy to find. Took some pics, had lunch and were back at the car at 3:45--not bad time w/ a short-legger along :) . Beautiful day today--sunny and warm--would have worn shorts except for the bushwack. Good day to be out and David is now a Catskill 1'er--Some pics http://community.webshots.com/album/549134740rVddjU

Glad to see your smile of enjoyment in the pictures. I'm sure you will be a regular in the Catskills soon. Nice report and pictures.

It looked warm and sunny over on Rusk Sunday, (cold and windy on Hunter,SW on the northern sides.) Good day to "hook" a new hiker. I know my son loves to find the canisters ( but dislikes bushwacking with me for some reason). Vly is another easy one for beginers.

He had a blast--lots of wildlife "signs" to find :) --kept it interesting. I think Vly and Bearpen are on board for next Sunday--(MH--thanks again for the info!)
He was ready for more when we finished!

Glad you guys had a great trip. Sunday was really nice with views of the mountains looking closer with the super clear skies. Sounds like we've got another young hiker hooked!
