I've already picked a few..let the voting start.
The voting process is as follows.

Choose your three favourite pictures for each season plus one overall favourite for the cover.

Send a PM to "Calendar" following this exact format:

Winter: 12, 14, 17
Spring:3, 11, 15
Summer: 5, 11, 19
Fall: 11, 15, 29
Cover: Fall 22

We're on a bit of a tight schedule so the voting will end at 4 PM today.

Haha! Got you right there didn't I?

Voting ends on September 15th at midnight.

Now, get cracking!

Yep - you got me.

Makes me wonder how many times you tell newbies on the trail with you "We're lost!"

Only 7 more shopping days until the polls close.

Make sure you PM your vote to forum member "Calendar" and not me.

The collection would make a fantastic screensaver, for sale or as a perk for Foundation Members.

I wonder if the photos are organized in such a way that Summer 1 is the same photographer as Winter 1, and so on. After I made my selections, I noticed that among my selections I had chosen two numbers 3 times each...perhaps not a coincidence. And they weren't mine or Fran's.

Surely you don't really think that we are that organized. I know quit calling you shirley:D

Less than 18 hours.....

I came up with the numbering system after a lengthy one on one consulation with Albert Einstein's ghost.

Very nice selections, many I voted for, but shouldn't there be 13 selections?
This way 13 selections are acknowledged not just 12

Winter12 received votes both for a slot in the calendar and the most votes for overall favorite. (We didn't specify whether you could or couldn't vote twice for the same pic.)

I agree and thought the same thing when I saw the winners. With all the great pics why do one twice? Makes sense (to me anyway) that you would simply take what would of been 4th place of the winter season and make it the 3rd place winner. It seems very logical that the overall winner would also receive the most votes in that individual season.

Yes. I too would like to see 13. Why have two of the same pics? It doesn't make sense.

This is vey easy to remedy. We keep the overall favorite on the cover and bump up the #4 winter vote getter to a calendar month spot.

Sound good?

(This means that now 7 instead of just 6 of my pics are in the calendar. Hehe JK)

I'll be the contrarian. It seemed a shame to me that previous winners of the overall favorite were relegated to the cover, where they were not seen. I'd like to see the overall favorite (or the best photo, if you will) on display for an entire month.

My favorite selection was also one that I voted on for one of the three summer selections.

The easy solution is to buy two calendars - that way you can hang one with the cover showing all year.

Or better yet, buy 13 and hang them all up!

This has always bugged me too. The most popular picture gets the least amount of exposure.

But, I found something out while street fighting as a teenager in tough Winnipeg: life just isn't fair. At least this way one more member is honored.

Decision made for 2011. See my post above. I owe you a beer.

Btw, I sold 2 calendars already to the Oval Office. Am I connected or what?

I'm in full agreeance with Steve, but I'm not sure agreeance is actually a word. The pic in discussion was by far my favorite picture, that's why I voted for it twice. I'd rather see it for a full month.
If we're saying that the actual cover photo is really just a waste, then why not stick a picture of Neil and Rik swimming in the Ausable on the cover. I know I'd hang my calendar up a lot faster!

One year we can display 13 pics and the next it can be 12, with the same one getting the two slots.

They all look super...I need a bunch!!!
and I agree although the cover is special it does not get the view time it
deserves. ( maybe last years winner on the cover? )

I am also wondering if you will write
"Dix from Nippletop" as the caption on that shot (W15)?:eek::eek: :D

Since I kind of started this, maybe this solution will work
Ask the owner of photo #12 which they would prefer? the cover or a winter month? Their choice?

:DI'm happy with winter 12 being in there twice, cause that way we get to see it for a month instead of just on the cover (cause other than when you get it, noone looks at the cover of a calendar much)... :D (and it's not even my picture!)

Neil
09-16-2010, 05:36 PM
Last year it was my pic that went on the cover. The same pic got chosen twice. It only went on the cover so as to leave room for someone else's pic to go on the inside.

What's good for the goose ....:D

Incidentally, the artist who gave us Winter 12 already PM'd me and said that whatever we chose to do was totally cool with them.

We're going to follow last year's pattern. All those disgruntled souls can amply get back at me at this coming Feb's winter gathering. I'm going to go for a dip and I'll be wearing an extra small Speedo for but a portion of the swim.

I think the winner's picture should be the new picture on the heading of this website as well :) Then we can all look at it everyday!

This is vey easy to remedy. We keep the overall favorite on the cover and bump up the #4 winter vote getter to a calendar month spot. So which photo was the #4 winter vote getter? (edit: sorry, I just noticed the other thread: 2011 Calendar pictures (http://www.adkhighpeaks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12540)).

BTW, I am OK with the executive decision. I have seen it work both ways in commercial and amateur contest calendars. Sometimes there are 13 photos with a unique photo on the cover. Sometimes one of the 12 month photos is put on the cover (a kind of "Best of Show" recognition). Both work.

I am always torn when voting. Should I vote for 13 or just 12 photos (with a repeat for the cover). If a lot of people vote for 13 photos and the vote is close in the cover competition, then it is possible that a really good photo (#2 vote getter in the cover vote) might not garner many votes in the season vote and fails to make the calendar. So my suggestion for next year's (2012) calendar vote is one of the following:

1. Have people just vote for 12 photos, 3 in each season. Advance the photo that garnered the most votes in any season to the cover. Advance the #4 vote getter in that season into the calendar.

2. Have people just vote for 12 photos, 3 in each season. Let them also vote for a cover photo, but it must be one of their 12 season voted photos. This way the cover photo is also selected by an explicit vote. Advance the #4 vote getter in that season into the calendar.

Either way there are 13 photos calendar, and the cover is a "Best of Show/Contest" selection.

While it's true that the 13th photo may not be seen all that much, if it was in a store, that would have to be the photo that grabs you and makes you want to buy the calendar. Just something to think about when we get to that stage!

When the winner buys a bunch and gives thems as gifts.. it is also a fun thing to say, yeah, mine is the cover photo.

I heard about these special scissors that cut paper too. If you want to see the cover photo more..or any month.. you can use them to remove that photo and put it anywhere! What will they think of next. I've heard rumors that you could just rip it off too but that sounds more like some crazy dream.

Good thinkin'. That's what I did with the free calendar I got recently at the Mountaineer, as the vertical orientation wouldn't allow the whole calendar to fit on my board on my desk at work.
