Don't normally post TR but curiosity has the best of me. Friday morning I parked off Beede Rd at the "designated parking area" and headed for Rocky Peak Ridge the long way. After the first few hundred feet of gain and a bit less than a mile I crossed Jim Estes Rd where there is a closer parking area that is not posted as a no parking area. Headed up the trail to Hopkins. The trail looks lightly used and would be a fun one to follow once the leaves are down. The Hopkins summit netted me a couple great dive bombing runs from a Falcon but the views were great.

I headed on towards the Green Mt lean to and was there mid morning. Headed up the whack to Green from the brook near the lean to. Along the way I realized there was substantial noise in the woods not made by me. I figured it was one of those large black things I've encountered more than once so I let out a healthy cowboy "Hyahhh!" and to my surprise I was met with a "Hello". We exchanged pleasantries about the whack without ever setting eyes on each other. I bushwhack a lot and never run into anybody so I'm curious if it was anybody from this forum.

Assuming that they were climbing I kept going and waited at the summit for a while but never saw a face to put with the voice. So, must be they were on the way down.

I guess it was a ghost or another annoying flash back ;)

Nice trip over Giant to RPR. The trip back was a bit long having to re-climb Giant, the countless up and downs between and Hopkins, but a great day nonetheless.

So if you were startled by my war hoop, mystery whacker, sorry....

Damon,

Yes, I guess it is strange to encounter others on a whack—can't remember it ever happening to me. On the other hand, the lean-to and stream make a prominent route marker and they are pretty much on a compass line from the summit. Also, it is one of the 46 highest. So I guess if it was going to happen anywhere, Green would be a likely spot.

I remember Albee telling me he ran into a Ranger in the middle of a total whack once, even less chance of that one.
