Got a late start Saturday afternoon (2:00) and hiked with my son up Blackhead for his 3500 requirement. I knew we would need snowshoes after hiking Vly Thursday during the start of the storm . From the junction of the Lockwood Gap trail up it was snowshoes, and winter conditions, blowing drifting cold , nice. No real spectacular views but worth the trip. Back to the car by 4:45.( No convincing him into a short trip up Blackdome because he knew T Cole would be next)? Sunday went on a 3500 club trip to BI and Fir. We left the crampons in the cars and took Snowshoes, puting them on on the ascent up the BI trail. Lots of breaking, 2,3,4' drifts. Due to some good navigation on the part of the leader we advoided any problems with the drainage, which has snagged me on both sides of the divide at different times. Beautiful day, great company, thanks everybody. And I only broke one of my MSR's , the other is still perfectly good!
