Sunday .. wet feet mud, wet leaves, mud--5 miles to south lake lean-to.dried out all day best i can.
Monday..drier feet for few miles, mud, water, dry land finally nice trail to wakley, wet feet, hurting , burning feet...stopped here , got ride from ranger to town, called for extraction, barely walk on burning feet..Ranger Bruce, Tall blonde guy, wish i got his last name, was a hell of a guy.
Mentally and Physically meaning my feet where well challenged. Learned That i can push myself thru driving rains 18 miles, walk till my feet hurt very much, enjoyed waking up to water front views from lean-tos :D and that thats alot of miles in 4 days. seen moose tracks, big Deer, wrabbits:D, two entertaining chimpmunks at spruce lake #2, one group from Troup # something at spruce lake #1 and no-one else. A mixed bag of thoughts on the next trip as of now..

Way to go. You gave it your best, despite the horrid conditions.

Why do I keep thinking NPT is "National Pipe Thread"???
Sounds like a life-changing experience Rob.. And sounds like you had an intimate encounter with all things mud. Did you get any mud photos, Mud baths, Mud hooks? :)

Hey Rob, I know you were hoping for different weather (I think!) but that's the challenge of trips like this. Good for you for really testing yourself and not bailing

Thanks M. when the body said WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!...I said WHOOOOO Mule...:dead: Now onto better things as TFR would Do..:drink:
Sorry for the bad-luck weather you had, which I'm sure was at least partially responsible for your burning feet! We thruhiked the trail just ahead (I think) of TCD in 2006 in superb weather conditions, with only one day of a piddling amount of rain. Some perpetual mud is on that trail, whether in sunshine or rain, but certainly you were dealt a bad hand.
Just a suggestion: don't give up on the rest of the trail! If you have the time, perhaps work out the itinerary for a few less miles per day on the rest. You'll see more, and your feet will thank you for it!
KWC: thanks for your trailwork!

Rob, sorry to hear that the weather didn't cooperate. However, give yourself lots of credit for perseverence! It really is a great trail and you still have plenty left to enjoy. The Cold River area up to and including Duck Hole is hauntingly beautiful. Have you set any dates for continuing the hike?

You act like you are mad that "someone" got mad and then you revive an old thread of your own and hijack one of your friend's. I like you Adam, I really do, but you are starting to piss off one of your friends now.
LET IT GO.

Well hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm are you referring to the DIKE or DYKE thread? I was appraoched by another woman about how i spelled it wrong and caught holy hell so I was just telling everyone the corect spelling of the word and what it actually meant! I was chastised by another and now by you!
Do you not remember how I aplologised and said if I offended you that I was sorry and it was not my intension? For someone that has battled cancer and survived I thought for sure you could take life more lightly now. I know what it is like to battle cancer as I saw my father go through it for 6 month and finally passed away! The last 6 month of his life were hell for us not to mention him and what he went through. Consider yourself lucky to have survived!
Anyways if you want to call me out do so through PM this is Rob's thread and lets not take away from it. His ordeal was trying and we all can learn from his expierence! Dont hike so early in the year :D
Take care,
ADAM :D

Y'know, Rob, you look surprisingly serene and almost contentedly resigned in your photos, considering the conditions. But, reading the report... yeesh.
How do you feel now? And when are you going back?
And I was charlene, that trail cant take that away from me.. Right now my feet are still a little not right and after all day at work im ready to be off them. Rest of my body was not affected. When am i going back, maybe in a month or so after some dry time..:D. had plans in july to finish but I have changed my mind and will now section hike the rest to "smell the roses" more. That will also give me more vaction time with my daughter in the future that she desrves, not used on that trail that will always be there..

I just have to say that this is one of the most inconsiderate things I've ever seen posted on this forum. Well done Adam.
