Saturday morning and early afternoon was spent finishing up our kitchen cabinets....yeah. :)

Late afternoon we did some running around to get prepared for a few friends to visit, Dick and Joanne.

Brian and I paddled the marsh at Ausable Point the other night after work and I couldn't help but think of Joanne while paddling it. How much she would enjoy the beauty of the marsh, the wildlife and flowers and would just be going crazy taking pictures.

Ausable Point is located on Lake Champlain on Route 9 in Peru, just south of Plattsburgh. On one side of the road going in is Lake Champlain with the great views of Mansfield and Camel's Hump, on the other side is a wonderful wildlife marsh.

After a nice bbq we loaded up our boats and headed to the point for a nice evening paddle. We saw much wild life, geese, goslings, king fishers, red winged black birds, blue heron and the beautiful water lillies. Joanne took many pictures, so maybe she will post some. We were treated with a beautiful sunset at the end of the day.

There are Osprey that nest at the point, but we did not see them this evening.

If you live in the area or are visiting up that way, it is a great place to explore. It is a place you can keep coming back to and discover something new everytime. A place Brian and I will be visiting many more times. :)

Many thanks to Brian and Cindy for a great time! You have made some amazing progress on your home in such a short time. It's so warm and inviting. The marsh paddle was spectacular. I want to come back during the week when it's a little quieter - lots of people visited Ausable Point this past weekend because of the holiday. Here are a few photos (http://picasaweb.google.com/JoanneHihn/52910AusableMarsh?authkey=Gv1sRgCLKIrZXIu6ymMQ#) from our paddle.

What a great place to have almost in your back yard! Thanks again to you both for your hospitality!

Sounds like it was very nice. Lovely photos, Jo! (Number 10 is definitely a heron, but hard to tell if it's great blue or green. My guess is Great blue.)

Wish we could have joined you, but we were busy trudging back from Cliff! :)

Yeah, I'm lovin it. We walk down at the point in the evening, that and Wickham Marsh, beautiful places.

I don't miss the long drives on Friday and Sunday that's for sure.

Just have to be careful if you have dogs and take them to Wickham Marsh, that place has more ticks than anywhere I've ever seen!!!!

The no-see-ums and mosquitos were pretty bad Wed evening. Ok as long as you didn't stop. :)

That brings me to a questions all you locals. Where is a nice place I can get in about a 3/4 mile walk each night, that is not loaded with bugs or traffic. Something pretty and woodsy, not steep, just want to work up a good sweat and some aerobic excersise. Am I asking for the impossible. Wickham is great for this, but very buggy right now. Guess that is an incentive to keep you moving at a good pace....hee....hee...hee.

Behind Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse. Several miles of trails, some along the river, hilly in sections but nothing to big. Also you can paddle over to Valcour island and take the hike around the island, albeit thats about a 2 mi hike, beautiful though.

You ARE new to the Adirondacks, aren't you?

No see-ums were horrible at the Ark last weekend...and in my own back yard for that matter! :smash:
