Mount Ellen, Jerusalem Trail 01-23-2010

After almost a month of searching information on different forums, without success on Mount Ellen, we decide to go and see by our self.
We reach the trailhead, a vehicle is parked and a couple is already there. It is a couple from Quebec, Sylvie and Christian, that we met last year on Wright.
They start before us, while we put our gears and Annie put her Hot Pads for her toes. The weather forecast today is sunny in the afternoon, and no wind. The trail is on a hard base and is easy to follow. We met S & C a little further. After we chat, Christian let me pass.
The trail was covered with a layer about 3 inches of new snow and higher up the trail is more difficult to follow. Difficult to follow due to snow covering the ground and the snow is stuck to the trunks of trees where the trail markers are. But we arrive at the Long Trail junction. From there, I'm following a ski track while I am keeping an eye on my GPS. Eventually the trail leads to a ski slope. I looked at my GPS and I am on the track that I downloaded from the web. So, I continued still leading the group and together, all four and the dog, start to climb the side of the ski slope. It's gorgeous the views that we had. We have climbed among the skiers, who stopped to talk to us occasionally. But the funniest part was seeing the little children ran down the slope. I often stopped to watch them. Arrived at the last chairlift, we went in the woods to reach the true summit of Ellen.

During the ascent and descent, it was so clear we could see several other mountains of Vermont, the White Mountains of NH, and the Adirondack Mountains. I saw traces of rabbits in the snow, but this was not those of Pinpinvert because Alain aka Pinpin is now in the Catskills.
A beautiful day, with blue sky and no clouds, no wind and not cold. In summary, it was a perfect day for hiking in the mountains.

Now we have completed all the 4000' summits of Vermont.

I know it is not a big hike as Allen or Santanoni, but we were very happy that we have done our 99th peaks of the NE111. :)

Hi Yvon, Nice pictures. This past weekend we did the hike you did last weekend, Dial. It was a great day to be out, no matter which state. When we did Mt. Ellen, we did it in the pouring rain from the opposite direction that you did. We hiked over Abraham then Ellken, then back. It looks like you had a much nicer day. Are you doing the 115 in Winter? Good luck with the rest. Mike D.

No Mike, not the winter NE111 but the regular NE111.
